Ankle

Once the cast comes off, it is possible that you may still need the crutches for a few days or weeks. The crutch should be used until you can walk reasonably and without pain. Your doctor or physiotherapist will advise you how long you need to use the crutches and how much weight you can put through the ankle.

  • Practice these exercise while sitting on the floor or bed.
  • Start by making 20 circles with the foot. Gradually increase the size of the circles.
  • With the leg straight, place the middle of a band or scarf around each foot and pull up on your foot. Hold this for 10 seconds.
  • You should feel a tightness in your calf as it stretches out. Then face your foot inwards and repeat. Then face your foot outwards and repeat.

The rehabilitation of other fractures are similar to those described above. For further rehabilitation of these fractures and others, consult with your physiotherapist.
