Will The Fracture Be Fully Healed When The Cast Is Taken Off?
The fracture should be healed sufficiently to allow the affected limb to move again. This may mean that it is not completely and totally healed but solid enough to get moving.
On visiting your fracture clinic, the doctor may check the broken bone clinically by feeling the skin over the fracture so assess for any tenderness. This may be a clue that the fracture is still healing. You may also be referred for an X-ray (although not always required). This may demonstrate healing of the fracture.
One must remember that when muscles have not moved in a long time, that they are much weaker and the affected nearby joints can be stiffer. That is why rehabilitation exercises are so important.
